Twinning and detwinning of < 011 > type II twins in NiTi shape memory alloy
Twinning and detwinning are the important factors affecting the properties of shape memory alloys. In the present work, the atomic accommodations of <011> type II twins before and after deformation are studied in details using high-resolution transmission electron microscope. The results show that the detwinning takes place through migration of the twin boundaries leading to growth of one variant at the expense of the other.
