A study on hot working of Al/SiC composites - Part I
The hot deformation behavior of SiC particle reinforced Aluminium composite made by powder metallurgy route was studied by compression testing. The Al/SiC composites with different volume fractions ranging from 0-20% were produced and tested over a range of strain rates (0.0087-2.7/s) and temperatures (300-500degreesC). Using the true stress values at different strain rates and temperatures, the strain rate sensitivity, power dissipation efficiency and instability parameter were evaluated. The activation energy was calculated for the composites and compared with that of pure aluminium.
