A short physical note on a new wind power formulation
Classical wind energy formulation is based on the kinetic energy definition whereby the mass is considered as a constant. Consequently, the wind energy is obtained as directly related to half (1/2) of the specific mass multiplied by the cube of wind velocity. The new approach in this note is based first on the basic definition of force and then energy (work). It is found that the same equation is valid but with 1/3 instead of factor 1/2. This makes about 100/3 percent relative error difference between the classical and the new wind energy formulation approaches. It is recommended herein that the new wind formulation must be used in the future wind energy calculations throughout the world. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
