Spanish sage seeds (chia) were studied for mass of 1000 seeds, angle of repose, chute angle, bulk and shaken d., size and shape of seeds, and their compressive strength. The chem. compn. of the seeds was also detd. (protein, fat, ash, amino acid content and fatty acid composition of the lipid fraction). The seeds showed high protein and fat contents (19.09% and 27.26%, resp.). The main acid of the lipid fraction was alpha-linolenic acid (62.3%).
