Three fused p-conjugated imidazole compounds were synthesized by acid-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of arylimidazole derivatives having protected aldehyde group. The optical properties were investigated in detail through the absorption/emission spectra, time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopies, and theoretical calculations.
