Thermochemical biomass conversion processes and their impact on the environment
Pine wood pellets were degasified without air access. The liq. by-products constituted as much as 57% by mass of the pellets. The condensates formed were introduced into the soil at varying doses (0.1-10 g/kg). Their impact on germination and inhibition of root growth of monocotyledonous plant (Sorghum saccharatum) and 2 dicotyledonous plants (Lepidium sativum and Sinapis alba) was studied. The condensates showed a phytotoxic effect and had a negative effect on plant germination and root length. Sorgum saccharatum showed the greatest sensitivity to the condensate components.
