Improving treadwear without increasing heat build up by using 1,3-bis(citraconimidomethyl)benzene
The antireversion agent 1,3-bis(citraconimidomethyl) benzene (Perkalink 900) reduces heat build up in vulcanizates under dynamic conditions, It functions by a crosslink compensation mechanism that maintains compound physical and dynamic properties on overcure or during service, The conventional approaches to improving treadwear - partial replacement of NR with BR, increased carbon black level or use of higher reinforcing blacks - lead to increased heat build up. This has limited the application of these approaches in practice, However, by incorporating Perkalink 900 together with these compound modifications the increased heat build up can be prevented, thus allowing improvements in treadwear to be realized. This is shown by laboratory data.
