Kinetic Studies of Copper(II) and Nickel(II) Adsorption by Oil Palm Ash

This paper presents a surface reaction rate model that can be used to describe the batch adsorption of metal ions onto unconventional adsorbent materials. Kinetic data of Cu(II) and Ni(II) adsorption on oil palm ash were compared with predictions of the theoretical model following determination of its parameters from small-scale experiments. In all cases studied it was possible to obtain excellent agreement between the experimental data and predicted results throughout the whole time course of adsorption. The apparent success of the model in accounting for experimental observations suggests that it can be used for the design and optimization of stirred batch adsorption systems.
