Insights into water control: A review
It has been conservatively estimated that, worldwide, approximately 5 to 6 bbl of water are produced for each barrel of oil produced. in the U.S., where many fields are depleted, the water/oil ratio (WOR) is closer to 9:1. Some fields remain on production with a WOR as high as 50:1. While water production is almost inevitable, it is desirable to defer its onset, or its increase, for as long as possible. A concept was introduced to use relative permeability modification (RPM) systems for hydraulic fracturing treatments that simultaneously stimulate oil and control water.
