Redox Characteristics of Various Kinds of Oxygen Carriers for Hydrogen Fueled Chemical-Looping Combustion
E-mail:
The redox characteristics of oxygen carriers have been studied for hydrogen fueled chemical looping combustion. The oxygen carriers were prepared by the dissolution and the sol-gel methods. The redox experiments of the oxygen carriers were performed in a thermogravimetric reactor to identify the reactivity and regeneration properties. In this study, the oxygen carrier having NiO as its active metal oxide shows higher redox reaction rates and regeneration properties than do the other oxygen carriers. In addition, the oxygen carriers having YSZ and NiAl2O4 structures show high redox reaction rates and regeneration properties in effect of various binders respectively. The NiAl medium prepared by a combination of a sol-gel process and an oil dropping method shows higher crash strength than do any oxygen carriers reported to date. In 10 cyclictests of the reduction at 873 K with H2 and the oxidation at 1273 K with air, the NiAl medium at 60 wt.% binders to prevent active metal oxide cohering. Thus, these results are expected to increase the quantity of active metal oxides in oxygen carriers.
