West Africa deepwater developments: Subsurface learnings
Deepwater fan-depositional models of the 1970s and early 1980s have been improved and enhanced with advancements in data quality aid quantity. Many channel complexes and related architectural elements now are recognized in deepwater reservoirs, and their complicated fades and flow- unit architecture require innovative development strategies. It is critical to develop robust depletion plans that maximize recovery, minimize well count, and maintain flexibility to react to dynamic change. Cross-functional subsurface team; (geoscience, reservoir engineering, drilling, and development planning) that use 3D-visuatization technology proved effective in developing such plans. These teams identified critical uncertainties and plausible scenarios that drive resource ranges. Robust development concepts there were identified to minimize risk across the range while achieving acceptable returns in the best-estimate case.
