Wetting phenomena on structured surfaces
"Soft" materials of complex geometry can be produced by taking advantage of wetting phenomena on structured surfaces. The interplay between a 2D pattern of surface domains and the 3D morphology of the wetting fluid is explained here from a theoretical point of view. The Figure shows the morphology of a wetting layer dewetting hydrophobic domains on a hydrophilic substrate.
