Cellulose fractions of different molecular weights were prepared from cellulose solutions in dimethyl sulphoxide/para-formaldehyde. The different molecular weight fractions of cellulose were then homogeneously acetylated. The acetylated products were characterized by using IR, PMR and thermogravimetric techniques. The effect of viscosity average molecular weight on thermal decomposition of acetylated products was also studied.
