Alkylation of toluene with n-propanol over modified zeolites
The reaction of alkylation of toluene with n-propanol has been carried out over HY, LaY, CeY, CrY, LaKY, HZSM-5 and LaZSM-5 zeolites. The yields of cymenes obtained are 35-68 wt% with high selectivity. The modified zeolites promoted by two different cations like LaKY are better catalysts for this reaction. The presence of promoter like La3+ in Y zeolite increases the alkylation activity, decreases the dealkylation of toluene to benzene and coking. The presence of K+ or Na+ decreases the coking and dealkylation.
