An ion selective electrode used in the direct determination of water hardness in tap-water, has been fabricated using Mg(II)-N-phenylbenzohydroxamate complex in the membrane. The electrode characteristics exhibited almost equal selectivities for Ca2+ and Mg2+ which enabled the simultaneous determination of both the ions. The results have been compared with EDTA titrimetry.
