Epoxy resin was investigated for improvement of thermal conductivity by inducing quasi-crystalline structure. To generate quasi-crystalline structure among the aromatic rings, biphenyl type epoxy(4,4’-diglycidyloxy-3,3’ 5,5’-tetramethyl biphenyl and diglycidyl ether of 4,4’-hydroxybiphenol, which was synthesized) was used with different types of hardener and surfactants in different curing condition. The curing agents were phenol and amine type. Curing temperature, curing condition and glass transition temperature(Tg) were measured by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). Thermal conductivity was measured by modified hot-wire method. The result of quasi-crystalline structure of epoxy resin was confirmed by electron diffraction pattern of the field emission-transmission electron microscope(FE-TEM). Quasi-crystalline structure of epoxy resin was partially observed when thermal conductivity was increased. |
