Catalytic Properties of Mo/HZSM-5 for CH4 Aromatization
E-mail:
The catalytic properties of Mo/HZSM-5 for CH4 aromatization were studied using a transient kinetic experiment. The rate of CH4 conversion to higher hydrocarbons increased markedly as the exchanged MoOx species reduced and carburized during CH4 reactions at 950K. After the removal of about one O atom per Mo, the reduced/carburization rate decreased and the hydrocarbon formation rate began to increase until it reached the maximum ethylene reduction and carburization formed CO, CO2, H2O, and H2 and led to the removal of 2.5 oxygen atoms per Mo, consistent with removal of all oxygens from the exchanged Mo2O5 surface species. During CH4 reactions, each MoCx contained species with C5Hx average stoichiometry, while the acid sites appeared to stabilize large carbocations with 8.5-11.5 carbons.
