THE USE OF GARBAGE DUMPING GROUND GAS IN THE COMBINED HEAT AND POWER-STATION NIEDERRAD OF THE MUNICIPAL WORKS FRANKFURT-AM-MAIN
The largest household garbage dumping ground of Europe in Dreieich-Buchschlag near Frankfurt am Main was closed down in 1991. The garbage dumping ground gas that developed had a CH4 content of 45 Vol.% on average and the amount that can be utilized will add up to 8000 m3/h at a maximum. The gas is used as additional fuel in the natural gas-fired Combined Heat and Power Station Niederrad of the Municipal Works Frankfurt am Main. Due to deviating properties of the garbage dumping ground gas, the existing boiler plants had to undergo a number of alterations and retrofits. Since Spring 1992 the plant has been in operation with garbage dumping ground gas without any problems.
