Time Pinch Analysis
This paper introduces a new method of time pinch analysis for the design of batch processes. Heat integration, utility system design and water minimization are all considered. The method differs from previous approaches in that time is treated as the primary constraint with temperature and concentration driving forces treated as secondary constraints. The method also offers new graphical representations of the problem. Storage requirements and rescheduling opportunities for reduced energy and water storage requirements are readily identified.
